About Me

A space where the psychological and spiritual can meet

I’m Vanessa Vile, an integrative psychotherapist, hypnotherapist and spiritual counsellor.

My work has grown from a deep interest in what happens when we stop trying to understand ourselves only through one lens.

There are parts of our experience that can be explored psychologically: our patterns, relationships, defences, beliefs, histories and the ways we have learned to protect ourselves. There are also experiences that are harder to fit neatly into language. Intuition, symbolism, energy, spiritual connection and the sense that something deeper is trying to make itself known can all become part of how we understand ourselves.

I am interested in the meeting place between those worlds.

My work is psychologically grounded, but it is also spiritually open. I am comfortable with complexity, uncertainty and experiences that do not always arrive with a clear explanation. You do not need to fit yourself into a particular framework before you come to me, and you do not need to decide whether what you are experiencing is psychological, spiritual or something in between.

We begin with what is true for you.

Why I work with thresholds

Over time, I have become increasingly drawn to the moments when something in a person’s life begins to shift.

Sometimes there is an obvious transition: the ending of a relationship, a change in work, loss, burnout, a new stage of life or a sense that an old identity no longer fits.

At other times, there is nothing dramatic happening on the outside. Life may continue to function perfectly well, but internally there is a growing awareness that something has changed.

You may understand yourself well and still feel stuck. You may have done therapy or personal development before and recognise the pattern, but find that insight alone has not created the movement you expected. You may simply have a feeling that there is something underneath the surface that has not yet been given enough space.

These are the places I think of as thresholds.

They are not necessarily crises. They are points of transition, questioning and possibility, where an old way of being may be loosening before the next one is fully visible.

I enjoy working in these spaces because they ask for curiosity rather than certainty. Often, the work is not about finding the fastest possible answer. It is about becoming quiet enough to notice what is already beginning to emerge.

My way of working

People have described my presence as nurturing, intuitive, non-judgemental, connected and quietly strong. Those qualities matter to me because meaningful inner work requires both safety and honesty.

I do not work from the assumption that I know what your experience means better than you do.

Instead, I bring my training, intuition and experience into a collaborative process. We might work through conversation and therapeutic exploration, or a session may move into guided imagery, meditation, hypnotherapeutic approaches, symbolism, Soul Plan cards, intuitive insight or energetic work.

The method is not decided in advance simply because it is something I offer. It needs to serve what is actually happening for you.

I also prefer work that has space around it. Although I continue to offer psychotherapy and counselling, much of the work I am increasingly drawn to is short-term and focused. I am interested in creating a meaningful encounter, allowing you time to reflect and integrate, and meeting again when there is genuinely something more to explore.

I do not believe that every piece of inner work needs to become an indefinite process.

Spirituality without needing to fit a belief system

My own spiritual path has become increasingly important to the way I understand my work and my life.

That does not mean you need to share my beliefs.

Within our work together, spiritual and symbolic experiences are welcome if they are meaningful to you. That may involve intuition, archetypes, energetic experiences, angels, dragons, guides, imagery or other forms of inner knowing. For someone else, none of those things may arise at all.

Both are equally welcome.

I do not want spirituality to become another framework that tells you what you are supposed to believe or how you should interpret your experience. I am much more interested in what something means to you and what relationship you want to have with it.

There is room here for curiosity. There is room for scepticism. There is room for not knowing.

My relationship with dragon energy

Dragons have become an increasingly significant part of my own spiritual path.

For me, their presence is not about fantasy or adopting an identity for the sake of being different. The relationship has developed gradually, and I have found myself repeatedly drawn toward the qualities and symbolism they carry: strength, guardianship, transformation, truth, ancient wisdom and the courage to meet what is asking to change.

At times, dragon energy has also entered the work I hold with others.

I do not assume it should be part of every person’s experience, and I do not introduce it where it does not feel relevant. However, I no longer want to exclude it simply because it may sit outside what people expect from someone with a therapeutic background.

Part of my own journey has been learning that psychological grounding and spiritual openness do not have to cancel each other out.

There can be room for both.

If dragons are already meaningful within your spiritual world, you will not need to hide that here. If they are not, there is no expectation that they become part of our work.

My professional background

I trained with the Holistic Healing College and work as an integrative psychotherapist, hypnotherapist and spiritual counsellor. My therapeutic background gives me a grounding in psychological processes, emotional complexity and relational work, while my broader spiritual and intuitive practice allows space for experiences that may not always fit neatly within traditional therapeutic language.

I am registered with the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR) and take the professional and ethical foundations of this work seriously. I work in accordance with the ethical codes and professional standards of both the Holistic Healing College and the GHR, including appropriate boundaries, informed consent, confidentiality and working within the limits of my training and competence. I also undertake regular supervision and continuing professional development to support safe, reflective and up-to-date practice.

That grounding is important to me, particularly because some of the work I hold may include intuition, symbolism, energetic experience or spiritual material. I want there to be room for those experiences without losing the importance of clear boundaries, professional responsibility and appropriate care.

Where something arises that would be better supported by a different professional, specialist service or longer-term therapeutic approach, I will be honest about that.

My aim is not to become the answer to everything. It is to offer the kind of space I am particularly well suited to hold, with both openness and integrity.

The work I am moving towards

Increasingly, my work is centred around creating spaces where people can step out of the usual noise long enough to notice what is happening underneath it.

Sometimes that happens in a single Threshold Session.

Sometimes it unfolds over several meetings through the Threshold Journey.

And sometimes the invitation is to step away more fully through retreat and silence.

The setting changes, but the thread running through all of these experiences is similar. We create space, listen more closely, explore what is asking for attention and allow meaning to emerge without immediately forcing it into a solution.

This is also why retreat work has become such an important part of the direction I am moving towards. There is something powerful about what becomes possible when we temporarily remove some of the usual distractions, responsibilities and ways of performing ourselves for other people.

I want to create more spaces where that kind of listening can happen.

If you are wondering whether we might work well together

You do not need to arrive with everything worked out.

You may know exactly what you want to explore, or you may simply know that something feels different and you want to give it some attention.

I tend to work particularly well with people who are reflective, curious and willing to engage with what emerges rather than looking for someone to prescribe the answer. You may already be psychologically self-aware, spiritually curious or comfortable with both worlds.

What matters most is a willingness to approach yourself with honesty and curiosity.

If you would like to explore the different ways we might work together, you can begin with the Threshold Session, the Threshold Journey or one of my retreat experiences.
